HISAYO NAGAI who’s main activity is the custom-made costume design, dislikes calling her profession "fashion designer".
Fashion is abstract and popular, but style is concrete and individual. She continues her activities from second viewpoint "style" which established her original position as an artist.

HISAYO NAGAI focuses her mind on life style, color, and attractive features of clients while creating her works, bringing a suggestion of individuality. Her works require the value of self-expression which differs from the spread of volume seller. When the unique pride of existence and the original sense of values that are not influenced by the trend of a time are put together, this gives birth to a pleasure which exceeds fashion brought by our own individuality. Self confidence independent of material value by originality converts fashion to "an expression of life style".

HISAYO NAGAI expresses her works as the go-between of that process, keeping this stance without any influence of time, and with no change since 20 years.

At this "12" exhibition, you’ll be able to see the concept of HISAYO NAGAI through several viewpoints, artworks based on the theme "avoid waste of materials" and Ad-lib live styling show. Experience her works should be once again, a chance to feel each life style and sense of values.

オーダーメイドの服飾デザインを活動主軸としながら、HISAYO NAGAIはファッションデザイナーという肩書きを嫌う。
時代に沿って変化していくファッションが大衆/抽象的ならば、スタイルは不動的且つ個人/具体的なものであり、彼女は後者の視点から制作活動を続け、表現者としての立ち位置を守り続けている。
ライフスタイル、カラー、チャームポイントに着眼し、潜在する魅力を更に引き立てるよう制作されるHISAYO NAGAIの作品は、量販店の普及により変わりつつある自己表現の価値観へ訴えかける。

唯一の存在であるという誇り、時代の風潮に左右されない独自の価値観。それらを身にまとう時、装いの喜びを越えた、自分らしくあるという喜びと出会う。物質に依存しないオリジナリティーから生まれた自信は、ファッションを"ライフスタイルの表現"へとシフトさせる。

HISAYO NAGAIは、そうしたプロセスの架け橋的な役割を担い、20年来変わらないスタイルでものづくりを続けている。

今回の展示会"12"では、「無駄のない制作」をテーマに制作された作品展示、アドリブでのライブスタイリングショーが企画され、HISAYO NAGAIのコンセプトを多角的に表現した内容となっている。

彼女の作品に触れることは、各々のライフスタイルや価値観と改めて向き合うきっかけとなるだろう。
